Let Our Youth Down
The Inspiration
“Let Our Youth Down” was inspired by growing concern over the hidden costs of the digital age and the profound impact that unmonitored social media platforms can have on young people. Written as a powerful protest against tech industry negligence, the song contrasts the everyday convenience of apps like TikTok, Snapchat, and WhatsApp with the darker realities of cyberbullying, predatory behaviour, online harassment, and fake news. It gives voice to the grief and anger felt when the mental health and safety of teenagers are sacrificed for online engagement.
The song also stems from a call for corporate accountability and systemic reform. By questioning the ethics of addictive algorithms, AI-driven content luring, and unsafe online spaces, the lyrics challenge major technology companies to take responsibility for the harmful material hosted on their platforms. Ultimately, the song serves as a solemn tribute to young lives lost to digital abuse, urging society and tech leaders alike to protect future generations rather than standing by with remorseless disdain.

First Verse
Social media succours, you can post like, or share,
Store your Snapshots online, read a blogger’s bugbear,
Check on Google for views, use a TikTok stream App,
Try all Facebook networks, message private What’s App.
Second Verse
Social media comforts, it can also cause strife,
It affects mental health, and can sadly end life,
It can ferment misuse, with no face-to-face greets,
It gives rise to Fake News, cause its source us-es tweets.
Chorus
Did they fail to engage, did they take down the page?
See the price that is paid, when a young life is preyed,
She was due to be a bride, not endure how she died,
Hear no songs of renown, you have Let Our Youth Down.
Third Verse
Are their algorithms all safe, will their formulas lure?
When they’re used with AI, how can we be so sure?
Is our influence safe, could our trust be all lost?
Can we mitigate risks, or insure against cost?
Fourth Verse
There’s some content uploaded, that will truly abuse,
No one needs or belongs, to these noxious dark views,
When a teenager dies, will the tech giants explain?
Why they’ve let our youth down, with remorseless disdain.
Chorus
Did they fail to engage, did they take down the page?
See the price that is paid, when a young life is preyed,
She was due to be a bride, not endure how she died,
Hear no songs of renown, you have Let Our Youth Down.
